Up with the birds!

Market Day is always an early start, but we embrace the moment!  Lots of little pouches were sewn up this week, think I can see a favourite theme here.

Here comes the sun

In a week that saw single digit temperatures, it has been lovely to see the sun!   Sunglass cases on the cutting board today.

Hello!

Hello there, long time no update!   Well we are shaking the sand from our shoes and heading back to Salamanca Market tomorrow.

We have missed the hustle and bustle and early morning starts! But have had a terrific holiday.

To celebrate our return, we are reducing all ipad covers discontinuing our journals.

Looking forward to seeing our market chums and the return of cooler weather.  We are in the middle isle down in middle of Salamanca on Saturday, just near the Arts Centre.

Around the world in 24 hours

Seems like it is safe to now mention the man in the red suit...yes eight weeks till Christmas!

I have listed some of our Christmas Market dates, including our two favourite markets of the year - The Barn Market and Designed Made.

We have received a stack of fabolous new fabrics that are in the process of being made into some of our favourite product lines, making possibly our 500th pencil roll...calls for a celebration (think I spy a wineglass in the background)!

Iconic

The State Cinema turns 100 this week and celebrations are well underway.  The State is synonymous for quirky and eclectic films and holds a special place in the hearts of many Hobartians.
State-Theatre2

I spent some of my student days with a glass of red  in hand, watching art house films - thought I was very sophisticated!

Here at Loopee Designs, we wish the State many happy returns and a big thanks for their ongoing support of our business.

Thrilled that we were commissioned to do the centenary bookmark as part of the birthday festivities.

At the end of the week, we are catching part of the Japanese Film Festival, there are also some reruns of some Hollywood classics now showing.

Here's to another 100 years of fabulous cinema!

Spring

At last count I have five working sewing machines, and a few that have seen better days....this one is one of my favourites and sits in the garden!

We will be at Salamanca Market tomorrow, we have missed it so!  We are up the St David's Park end of the market, if you feel like dropping by.

Art for grown ups

These art wraps have been selling as fast as I can make them.

They have been popular with artists young and old....they hold pencils and an art diary and are perfectly portable!
I have made seven this week, in various designs.
If you feel like dropping by for a visit, we are back at Salamanca Market before we head off to warmer climes!

Don't talk to me Chucky...

It has been a while since I've shared an op shop find here.  I thought these puppets fairly innocuous until I took them to the counter and tried to pay for them.  Their purchase prompted a good deal of discussion and I received some interesting advice.

Chucky was on the top of suggested names.  Evil looking, freaky and scary were other names to describe them.  When the conversation turned to the possibility that they might start talking to me while wielding a kitchen knife, I thought this is getting out of hand.
Have to say, one of the weirder conversations I've had in an op shop.

In the cold light of day, all this seemed ridiculous and implausible, but in the middle of the night, when I fumble for the light switch, I have to admit these possibilities have crossed my mind!

Market days

Salamanca Market in the autumn/winter certainly takes on an atmospheric feel.
The less hectic pace gives us a chance to catch falling autumn leaves.....

and catch up on flower making.

We are back next Saturday just down near the Court Steps and hoping for another spectacular sunrise.

What rhymes with crayon?

hmmm, nothing that I can think of!  Maybe Dr Seuss could help.

In the mean time, I have been busy finishing off crayon wallets.

We are still taking a short break from markets, but will be back in early June.  As always just send us a quick email if you have any urgent requests!

Audrey

Audrey is one of my heroes.

When I think of her - the words style, grace, big sunglasses, crazy dancing and most of all humanitarian spring to mind.

This week I delivered an order of bookmarks to the State Cinema Bookshop, amongst which included a number of iconic images of Audrey.

All proceeds from the sale of these bookmarks are on their way to KIVA which assists micro businesses around the world.

I also wish I could carry off that pixie haircut :)

Out of the box

My box of purely designed and printed Australian fabric was raided this week...the result, some lovely new pouches.

Tomorrow we will be at Salamanca Market, just down the Silo End near the whale pot.  Might wear my red shoes just in case we end up in Kansas!  Not really,  calmer conditions are forecast!

The White Rabbit

Today I ate my first easter egg of the season, and found a gorgeous nurses' watch in an op shop.

Both reminded me of a big White Rabbit.

I'm trying not to feel like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, as he rushes around madly.  It has been a very busy month....but I hope to be back at Salamanca just before the arrival of the other Rabbit with his load of chocolately goodness...will keep you posted!

A rainbow connection

Sometimes I wish I had counted the number of artist pencil rolls I have made over the years.  They remain my favourite item to make, and at the risk of sounding unbelievably twee, it is like making rainbows!

Last week at Salamanca Market, a great aunt bought one for her three day old great niece, makes me happy that Sylvie's introduction to drawing will be with a pencil roll I made.  Also a recently graduated doctor, bought one for her tools...I did tell her the roll was washable.

While I'll keep making some favourites,  a new product will make its' debut this Saturday at the Barn Market...a hint....its just like the big ones only smaller.  Yes, it's the mini me ipad covers.

Also something different happening in the Barn - live music all day - in the words of the younger member of the Loopee Team - this is randomly awesome!

The Barn Market is on from 10.00am at the Rosny Farm.

An accidential tourist.

Today I chatted to many interesting travellers and learnt all about an amazing fabric collection stored in a villa in Italy.   Treasured fabric from across three generations was held in the cellar in a very special cupboard,  it just sounded divine!

Often at Salamanca Market, I'll receive a request for an ipad cover with a wombat on it, or Tassie Devil pencil case.  My fabric choices really aren't dictated by trying to fit a niche....but I discovered my newest Japanese linen has an interesting depiction of a kangaroo and its joey.  Well that's what the fabric description says....still thinking it could be a very happy looking rabbit!

In other news, another penguin pouch is on its' away to Antarctica, not as a tourist but on a fully fledged scientific expedition.  Hope they make some amazing discoveries together.

While all the chat with such interesting globe trotting folk has made me want to renew the passport and head off, I'll be at the Barn Market at Rosny Farm next Saturday!
